British Values & Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural Education
Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural Education
Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural Education (SMSC) is at the heart of the curriculum at Lea Manor High School. The SMSC curriculum provides opportunities for all of our pupils to develop their character, confidence and resilience through a variety of activities. A key part of their character development is the school's 5R’s, which help our pupils develop skills needed for life beyond school. The SMSC curriculum also prepares pupils for life in modern Britain, developing the values of mutual tolerance and respect, democracy, the rule of law and individual liberty. In addition to the SMSC and British Values education embedded into the academic curriculum, further ways the school develops character include:
- Form time activities: Time is dedicated in form times to the P.H.S.E and Safeguarding curriculum. This provides opportunities for pupils to develop relationships with their peers and form tutors as they discuss sensitive issues.
- The Assembly Programme: Assemblies in the theme of the schools core values are planned and delivered by a range of staff, emphasising the importance of the 5R’s and character development.
Through the SMSC curriculum we aim to help pupils with:
