Technology for Learning

At Lea Manor High School, our vision is focused on ensuring that everyone in our school community can easily connect and work together online. We understand how crucial it is to prepare our pupils for a world where digital technology is everywhere. Our goal is to equip pupils with the skills they need to thrive in this fast-moving environment, creating a supportive learning space where technology makes education more engaging and prepares them for future opportunities.

We have invested in modernising our classrooms and providing the necessary tools to support innovative teaching methods. Each classroom is equipped with an interactive board and a desktop computer, ensuring that technology is readily accessible for both teachers and pupils. Additionally, we have upgraded our Wi-Fi infrastructure to ensure fast and reliable internet access throughout the school, supporting a seamless digital experience for everyone.

Access to Chromebooks

To further support our commitment to digital learning, each department at Lea Manor High School is equipped with a set of Chromebooks. These devices are available for pupils to use during lessons, enabling them to engage with digital resources, conduct research, and complete assignments.

Google Classroom

To support our pupils, we use Google Classroom, a tool that makes it easier for everyone to stay organised and connected. Both pupils and teachers use this platform to manage assignments, independent learning, share important resources, and communicate. It helps pupils keep track of their work, get feedback, and stay on top of their studies, all in one place. This approach not only streamlines learning but also makes it more interactive and collaborative.

Supporting Every Pupil

We recognise and support the diverse needs of all our pupils. That’s why we provide Chromebooks to pupils who need them during lessons. If a pupil doesn’t have a computer at home, they can still get access to computers in the IT rooms during lunchtime. We want to make sure every pupil has the tools they need to succeed, no matter their home situation.

Online Tools

To further enrich their learning experience, all our pupils have access to a range of online tools that support their studies. These include:

  • GCSE Pod: Provides engaging, bite-sized video content to help pupils revise and consolidate their GCSE subjects.
  • Maths Watch: Offers a wealth of resources for mastering maths concepts, including video tutorials and practice questions.
  • Sparx Maths: Provides interactive exercises and personalised feedback to enhance pupils’ understanding of mathematics.
  • Kay Science: Delivers interactive lessons and resources to support pupils’ learning in science.

Each pupil is subscribed to these platforms, giving them valuable resources to aid their learning both in and out of the classroom.

Encouraging Independent Learning

Pupils are also encouraged to use various online learning platforms to support their independent study. We train pupils on how to use each platform and provide unique log-in details where needed. These platforms include:

  • Unifrog: Assists pupils with career and university research, helping them make informed decisions about their future.
  • Quizlet: Offers interactive flashcards and study games to reinforce knowledge and prepare for exams.
  • Kerboodle: Provides interactive resources and exercises aligned with the curriculum.
  • BBC Bitesize: Features comprehensive revision materials and interactive activities across a range of subjects.
  • Cognito: Supplies engaging video content to support understanding of complex concepts.
  • Seneca Learning: Utilises adaptive learning techniques to help pupils revise and master key topics.

Safeguarding

We prioritise the safety of our pupils in the digital world. All school devices, including the Chromebooks, are equipped with robust filtering and monitoring software. This software detects the usage of restricted words and phrases, allowing us to swiftly identify and address any potential risks. This technology helps us ensure that pupils can explore online resources in a safe and secure manner. Additionally, our comprehensive e-safety policy provides clear guidelines on the responsible use of the internet and email, which all pupils are required to adhere to.

Google Workspace

Both staff and pupils have access to Google Workspace, a powerful suite of tools designed to enhance collaboration and productivity. Google Workspace includes applications like Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, which allow users to create, share, and collaborate on documents and projects in real time. This suite makes it easier for pupils to work together on group assignments, and for teachers to manage classroom activities and provide feedback. Google Workspace makes it easier for pupils to keep track of their work and collaborate effectively, making learning more interactive and seamless.

Empowering our staff

Our teachers also have access to laptops, which they use to plan lessons and connect with pupils. But it doesn’t stop there. We believe in the importance of continuous professional development (CPD) for our staff. That means we are committed to offering regular training and support to help our teachers make the most of the latest educational technologies. By investing in our staff’s growth, we ensure they can deliver the best possible learning experience for our students.

At Lea Manor High School, we are all about making technology work for our pupils and staff. By creating a supportive and innovative learning environment, we aim to prepare our pupils for the future while making their educational journey as enriching as possible.
